Trek Overview
Gokyo Lake Trek is an extraordinary journey through the Khumbu region, offering trekkers a chance to witness majestic Himalayan ranges exceeding 8,000 meters, including the highest peak in the world, Mount Everest, as well as Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and the Ngozumpa Glacier – the largest glacier in Nepal. This trek also provides a glimpse into the diverse flora and fauna of the Sagarmatha National Park.
The trek begins at Lukla, where you’ll head toward the Dudh Koshi River and pass through Sherpa villages like Phakding and Namche Bazaar. You will be greeted by the towering peaks of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and other mountain giants. The trail leads to the stunning Gokyo Valley, where you will visit the Gokyo Lakes, including the beautiful Longpongo, and marvel at the surrounding views of Cho Oyu Peak. The highlight of the trek is the climb to Gokyo Ri at 5,453 meters, offering some of the best panoramic views of the Everest region.
This 12-day trek is a perfect blend of natural beauty, adventure, and cultural exploration. It’s best done between September to December and February to June, with lodge accommodations available throughout the journey.
